THE CRAZE FOR MID CENTURY MODERN FURNITURE - FROM BELFAST TO BEIRUT

The craze for mid century furniture is really a global phenomena.  The furniture that you see in the Mad Men Series is not just  american accent pieces that recall the nostalgia of the retro or vintage scandinavian, danish furniture of the 50's and 60's. The mid century pieces have become a design must for most modern interior, seeking individuality and character.  There may be variation in forms and designs, but the spirit of the mid century is  being relived in a creative manner to create an exciting modernist interior.  Not just homes, but offices, hotels, boutiques and f&b, are insisting on mid century furniture and finishings. 

We know this for certain, because, at SECOND CHARM, we got so many requests from these various sources. The strong demand comes not only locally in Singapore and Malaysia, but globally.  We had enquires from overseas: UK, Australia, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Paris and Belfast on record. The only problem we have is that shipping costs from our part of the world to these places are really costly for individual pieces.  In some cases, they cost more that our pieces. But it is interesting and flattering to know, that our mid century inspired designed pieces are being loved in so many places. 

Just as people are discovering us, we too discover some dealers of mid century furniture in the most unlikely places. I recently chanced upon a website dealing with beautiful mid century pieces, based in Beirut. Run by a couple and home based, their vintage mid century pieces are few but amazing. It's selfish not to share. I attached pictures below.

Having shared the above, allow us to introduce some of our latest midcentury inspired pieces. They are all made of solid old teak with most have natural matt wax finish.  Some are custom made pieces, bespoke for those who require specific dimensions and designs. And some vintage pieces that have been restored and reupholstered.

This looks like a dining table.  But we custom made this almost egg shaped

 table for Rina to use as a working table in her exclusive office. The side 

 for the chairs is  slightly straightened. L190 cm, depth at wider end

 100 cm and the smaller end 60 cm.  Height 76 cm

Vintage sewing machine legs made into a writing table. The timber top is

beautifully 3 cm thick.  The dimension of the top in the 

picture is 120 x 60 x 3 cm.  Size of top can vary

to suit one's particular need.
