As much as I appreciate Wheaton Christian Center (the church that owns the building where Bobs Furniture is located), as you might remember – Bobs Furniture is a division of Outreach Community Ministries and the proceeds of everything we sell is helping to restore hope and provide opportunities to area children and families through Outreach’s programs and services.
Recognizing how well Bobs’s been doing; successfully holding a rummage sale about four years ago; and having two amazing woman, Sandra and Alberta, willing to coordinate a more permanent resale store on the east side of our line of metal bookcases – plans and work and organizing and more work and painting and additionally lighting and sorting and pricing – have all been happening for the last two years leading up to…
TODAY Wheaton Christian Center’s resale store – “Treasures in Rummage” is opening! Their hours are different from Bobs Furniture’s – which could be a little confusing if it weren’t for how smart all Bobs Furniture customers are!
Wheaton Christian Center’s “Treasures in Rummage” is open:
- Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Outreach Community’s Bobs Furniture is open:
- Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Though “Treasures in Rummage” will also have furniture for sale (nothing like a little healthy competition!) it’s a more traditional resale store with lots of clothing – men’s, women’s children’s – toys, household items, collectibles, weekly 99 cent specials and monthly silent auctions.
You now have TWO reasons to stop by 610 E. North Ave. in Carol Stream! Though when both store are open there’ll be an interior “hall” between the two – more often you’ll be entering “Treasures in Rummage” through their new double glass doors which are located a bit east (to the left as you’re facing the front of the building) of our front doors. We ask that all purchases be completed at one store prior to moving to the other and though “Treasures in Rummage” might make some tweaks as they go along – for now – they’re planning on being open every Friday/Saturday just like Bobs Furniture.
Continuing with the “treasures” theme – if I had to change Bobs Furniture’s name this week, two immediately come to mind – “Treasures Galore” or “Stools/Chairs/Couches R Us”. Don’t believe me? Let’s take a look at some of the new-to-us items available:
two very nice, super comfy, loveseats in excellent condition priced $165 each
super fun retro chairs $65 each; lovely side table $45
neat-o orange vintage chair for $55; handcrafted side table for $60
Crate and Barrel micro-suede sofa (some very minor spot cleaning needed) priced $245
three different things going on in these two photos: fabulous – like new – Crate and Barrel table with one leaf (leaf is in table in this photo) priced $250; eight chairs (six armless, two arm chairs flanking buffet) by Davis (sold wood – caning in excellent condition) priced $295 for all eight; matching Davis brand rolling buffet (great hardware, beautiful piece) priced $175
Room and Board micro-suede sofa priced $195 – great piece, needs some spot cleaning
fabulous vinyl topped, low ottomans priced $45 each
totally amazing, fabulous, excellent condition retro chairs (each with a contrasting pillow which is hard to see in the photos) priced $85 each
fantastic 89” long Room and Board sofa in sorta a brunt orange (reddish orange?) color fabric priced $295 – needs to be cleaned but even adding $100 for cleaning you’ll have an amazing piece (retails for $1,799)
funkadelic chairs priced $65 each
gorgeous McCreary arm-less chairs priced $165 each
Room and Board sofa priced $145 (and needs to be cleaned)
Here are where the stools start (with other furniture mixed in). We received a donation of brand new stools – many still with price tags on ‘em – but the catch is there’s only one stool of each style. If you’re going for an eclectic look at your breakfast bar, we got ya covered!
swivel stool priced $65
adjustable black velvet and chrome swivel stool priced $75
gorgeous tufted bench for $75
both stools in this photo swivel and are priced $65 each
swivel stool towards the front of this photo is $65; non-swivel stool toward back right corner of photo is $35; tall swivel stool next to $35 stool is also $35
swivel stool priced $65
amazing black leather (I think leather?) and chrome swivel stool priced $75
fabulous yellow satin retro couch priced $135 (needs to be cleaned); retro coffee table is $30
here’s another pair of fun vintage chairs priced $40 each
light gray sofa by Directional (fabric reminds me of kite material) priced $35
lovely side chair – upholstery needs to be cleaned – priced $65
wonderful vintage one piece china cabinet for $95
this loveseat will make you want to get your groove on! – and it’s in mint condition (probably due to the fact that NOTHING could damage this upholstery!) priced $65
unusual entry table (sorry photo’s so bad – it’s a super cool piece) priced $195
At this point in my photo taking – I pooped out. In my defense it was 8:00 p.m. and I’d been working since 8:00 a.m. but trust me when I say there are EVEN MORE treasures to be found– now 60,000 square feet of treasures (when you add in all the amazing merchandise in “Treasures in Rummage”’s inventory) – and you simply have to come in and see for yourself!
Of course, you – dear reader – are the greatest treasure of all! No question about it.
