Dear All
20% of those who visited my blog, come from the USA. Some of them must have been following it, judging by the regularity and consistency of the visits. Still, I'm happily surprised to receive an email from Ms Laura of Pennslyvania. She loves the blog, she said. Thanks, Laura. Glad to know that. She wrote to seek my opinion on pieces of wooden armchairs that look similar to what she discovered in my blog. Below is the picture Laura sent me.
They are really very similar to what we have at SECOND CHARM, from the pencil legs to the spindle back and the spring loops. And they are of solid teak too, if you look close up. Interestingly, she said the pieces have the words "Made in Italy", embossed on them.
Both of us find that strange as we recognized these pieces as typical of Danish furniture of the mid century modern era rather than as Italian furniture. Perhaps, these furniture design and style of the 60's must have been very popular and dominating the furniture scene, that the Italians, who have always been in the forefront of furniture designs and making, must have come out with their own version.
It is a fact, that we seldom escape the social and historical influences of the era or the times we live in. The conditioning effects of these influences, must have explained the emergence of similar styles of thoughts, which in turn led to similar styles of works. Within these similar styles of thoughts and works, there is of course, great rooms for differentiation, creativity and identity.

A variation of the retro sofas of the 60's and 70's which I got only a couple of days ago. Slightly low on the back rest, broader and deeper than the ones we used to get.
Fiona sent me this picture of a retro 1960's glass display cabinet. It seems she got it from someone who bought the piece from me, since she cant wait and I dont have stocks. The charm about this cupboard is the elegant retro look, also it is not too big, plus, the see through glass makes it perfect to display one's vintage collections.
A similar cupboard, circa 1960's. The top and the upper compartment have vintage blue formica on them. We can easily transform the piece into a glass display cabinet , unless one prefers to keep it as original as possible.
My favourite find of the day. A 3-panel foldable canvass screen with picture of a cherub on it. A lovely combination of art and functionality. For those who loves European furnishing, this piece will be a great addition.
An oval shaped dining table. 4 feet in length. Most probably of nyatoh or ramin wood. Sold to Mr Sham
A CELLINI dining table with 4-ft round glass top. Flower etchings round the glass. Legs of cast iron.
A retro 1960's single door wardrobe. Front mirror missing. Will be converted into a glass display cabinet.
A retro 1960's solid teak Queen sized bed. With metal gilts at the sides. A beautiful piece once restored. We have matching wardrobes and dressers to match. All vintage teak pieces of the same era.
A lovely Art Deco queen sized bed. One of those furniture made with pride. The wooden bed frames are made with almost one inch thickness of solid Burmese teak.
A vintage wooden baby cot, jugding by the metal poles at the sides to slide the wooden panel and the brass locks
The same bed above with the wooden slide up. There are 4 holes at the finials, to make a 4 poster bed for the lucky baby.
6 dining chairs in destressed silver painted wooden frames. Would be lovely to reupholstery in dark grey or black fabric. The marks on the cushions is because they were caught in the rain on the way back to the shop.
Another favourite find of the day. 4 foldable vintage chairs. Love the turqoise blue seats. Usually the seats comes in vintage red PVC
Dragon pot. No holes at the bottom. Ideal for that water plants garden project. I've seen someone puts a glass top on it to make a coffee table.
So much for today. Till my next posting.
Warmest regards
Sharifah
