Dear All
Did you see Strait Times special report, "Heritage is Hip" on Saturday 26 November? Some eleven pages of them, covering individuals and institutions, involved in preserving, recording, reliving, reviving and reinterpreting aspects of the past and heritage. The various articles of the report confirm my observation, as recorded in my previous postings, of the rising trend among young people into heritage without the conservatism and dogmatism of the past. I long notice this creative trend among young middle class, whose global exposure either though social media, reading, traveling, living or studying abroad, have given them lots of fresh, innovative ideas to experiment with the past and to develop, in returns, some positive outcomes.
Also their quest for modernity and individuality, has all the more strengthened their soulful need for roots and respect for the collective memories of the past. Love for vintage furniture and furnishings, experimenting with them and creatively integrating them into their modern life, is one manifestation of this growing trend.
