VINTAGE FURNITURE - A THING OF BEAUTY IS A JOY FOREVER

Dear All

Warmest greetings from SECOND CHARM. We have accumulated quite a bit of vintage and preloved furniture. Many of them  have been beautifully restored: display and book cabinets, wardrobes, writing desks, dressers, chests of drawers, kitchen larders, beds, retro sofas, sideboards, dining tables, coffee tables, dining tables,  kopitiam tables etc.

I'm raveling in their beauty. And what a joy to see them. Wish I can keep all of them.  But to be philosophical and realistic at the same time, how many beds can you sleep in, and how many dining tables can you eat from? So, it is great to spread out and share these lovely pieces to those who need them and love them. Like all things of beauty, they will be a joy forever.

A rare retro dresser that has been beautifully restored. We cleaned and polished 

the original vintage white formica and restored the solid teak wooden parts. 

 Inspite of the stains in the old mirror, Mohd who reserved this piece,

would like to keep it as it is.

An art deco 1950's solid teak dresser in original condition.

Rare teak dresser stool.  Restored and upholstered for Peter who

goes for shades of green furnishing. 

Retro stool of the 60's belonging to Toety, a fashion stylist.  She brought 

in the vintage fabric and we reupholstered the piece for her.

A vintage 50's dresser stool in beautiful burmese teak V legs. It is a pity the

original vintage PVC  is in bad condition.  To be reupholstered for Ivy.

A vintage 1960's-70 extendable round dining table with the characteristic 

pencil legs.  Restored and available in Kuala Lumpur.

The vintage dining table above takes on an oval shape when extendable.

Mid century all teak dining table beautifully restored.  Taken up

by Shaniza in Kuala Lumpur.

An art deco solid teak dining table taken up by Malay celebrity, Rilla Melati.

This table will be a lovely addition to her other art deco U-leg pieces that 

she has accumulated over the years , which she is very proud of.

 

Rare vintage solid oak dining table set, made in Croydon Surrey by

Webber  Furniture. Upholstery if velvety red fabric that s still in 

relatively good condition.

Two of the dining chairs of the above set have arms for the table heads.

Retro 1960's sideboard/divider being restored. Glass on both sides 

and  centre shelf.   153cm in length.  Being restored.

A vintage low open bookshelf that has been restored for Ms Ang,

to be placed under her window, she said.  She text me immediately

on receipt of the piece, saying how she love it.

Beautiful armless 3-seater retro sofa taken up up by Marko and her fashion

photographer wife, Tawan.  The pattern green fabric is vintage, available

at SECOND CHARM.

reupholstered for Jeffrey Tay.  We sourced the black and 

white fabric for him and it  is perfect for the chairs.

The last piece of our mid century chair, restored and reupholstered

bought.  We restored the originally battered piece, replaced the mirror front 

to glass  and make shelves inside instead of purely hanging section.

A rare retro coffee table belonging to Shaniza that was sent to us
for restoration.  Solid teak bottom.  But a pity the top is ply. 
We overcome the problem by lining  the top with solid 
old teak wood.

different depth , though. They were originally side cabinets
of a vintage 1960's dressers.

We are selling vintage beds fast these days.  As it is difficult to get 
solid teak vintage beds elsewhere, I'm told.  And most of them 
prefer the simple but elegant retro  beds of the 60's. This vintage 
1960's solid teak with the characteristic gilt edges is available.

An antique bed, circa late 19th century-early 1920's belonging to Cynthia

that we lovingly restored for her.  It is actually a 4-poster bed.

Old cast iron legs. Originally metal top.  But it rusted so badly, we 

replaced it with a wooden top. Available.

Christine Wheatley.  And they turned up beautiful.

We have a lot of requests nowadays for furniture to be painted in

different colours that we now keep colour catalogs in our stores. 

Colour codes of Nippon and Dulux differ in Singapore and
Malaysia. Lime green rack for Fiona Choy and Neptune
blue shoe rack and white magazine rack for Ee Lyn.

turqoise green for Laysie.

A 1960's office recreated for EDB 50th Anniversary Celebration.

We put together vintage solid teak writing tables, chairs,

open bookshelf and even a vintage standing fan.

The lounge area has a retro 1960's sofa set in vintage fabric and 

a teak coffee table of the same period..  We even managed to 

include a vintage file sorting stand.

Even as I'm finishing this blog, we had a new batch of furniture that came in yesterday.  Would put them up in my next posting soonest.
