DEAR ALL
Although retro and midcentury modern furniture is a craze among most my customers, there is a small but serious group who is passionately in love with french and italian furniture. All the behavioural symptoms of a genuine love affair are there - the often love at first sight, the pure pleasure of enjoying their beauty as they are or the willingness to indulge them with some of the most luxurious of fabric such as silk and velvet, the joyful work of caressing them with gold leaves, the happy task of enhancing their beauty with equally beautiful and often luxurious surroundings and accessories such as cyrstal chandeliars, handmade carpets, fine porcelains and chinnoseries pieces and last but not least the beaming pride when talking about them. Classic french and italian furniture, somehow, have all the evocations of romance, luxury and indulgence.
From time to time, french and italian furniture enter into SECOND CHARM, especially sofas armchairs and dressers and they are quickly snapped up. Often in solid mahogany wood, these furniture often need reupholstery for their cushions seats. Inspite of the high cost of reupholstery, the french and italian furniture lovers, enjoy sourcing the right fabric for their beloved pieces. The result is often a lovely transformation and a beautiful sight to behold.
HANS CHEONG COLLECTIONS OF FRENCH FURNITURE PIECES FROM SECOND CHARM
So is this french armchair in solid mahogany. Since the fabric was in good condition, Hans left it as it is and took the joyful taskof gilding the wooden frames in gold leaves.
This lovely low chair is an Italian piece. A small brass tag at the side states the brand Salotti. It was originally in red velvet. Now wrappedin an equally luxurious white silk. Wooden frames personally
gilded by Hans.
A beautiful tufted chaise lounge in peach coloured fabric. There was some stained on the fabric but Hans managed to get rid off of it and keep the original since he loves the pastel shade and that how most of the coloursin his home are -shades of pastel enlivened by the rich tone of gilded furniture and fine furnishings.
A white stained high back dining chairs. The cane seat and back remain intact. Hans took 2 pieces of these chairs and another same piecesbut with arms went to Cristina.
The other pair of the white stained french chair. The table is a real solidItalian piece from SECOND CHARM. A deep greenish Italian marble seats on an original heavily gilded decorative legs. It comes with a matching planter, which I'm holding on inspite of Hans' gentle persuasion, asking me to let him have it.
The gilded mirror was from SECOND CHARM and some of the silver plated pieces that decorate the mantel piece above a white porcelain sink.
Another beautiful french armchair and gilded table stand. The mahogany planter with the twisted leg was from
SECOND CHARM.
The chair with cream coloured fabric was from SECOND CHARM.One of the scenery paintings was also from us.
One or two decorative chairs like the above really beautify a home. The white porcelain statue imparts serenity to the place.
Hans lovely collection of red porcelain vases. Inspite of the differentchairs, they are somewhat harmonized by the different shades of red. The silk pastel pink hand made carpet was from SECOND CHARM. If you
are into claw legs Chippendale chairs, we have some in Kuala Lumpur.
This french dining chairs were recently reupholstered for a lovelyfrench lady customer of mine, Cristina Estrada. Being french, she understands french furniture fully and was quick to decide soonest
I post them online. I love how she meticulously hunts for the
right fabric and reflecting on the colour combinations. The original
fabric of the above chairs was velvety red. Cristina transformed
them into refreshingly green hues. The black wooden frames
of the chairs, somehow match the wooden pedestal table legs.
A wing chair and ottomon that we reupholstered for Cristina. Originallythe set was white and orange stripes. The green shade of this chair
blends in with her other minty green dining chairs without being boring .
An elegant outcome.
A white stained armchair that Cristina got from us sits prettily in herbig balcony. The oval marble top table with beautiful wrought
iron legs was also from SECOND CHARM.
While Cristina loves to reupholster old french armchairs and sofas, for the above pair of armchairs with vintage tapestry, she keeps them as they are. Somehow, french furniture and Chinnoserie pieces go well togetherlike the above image.
The same goes for the above image. The chair was from SECOND CHARM. Notice the Chinese drum seat at the side. A mixture of occidentalism and orientalism.and a long time customer of mine. Like Hans, he gildes most of the
furniture pieces himself. The above armchair was partly gilded
by him.
he visits us almost every week, he got some of the best italian,
french and chinese pieces from us.
Warmest regards
Sharifah
